Cincinnati's Cincinnatus scholarship: application timing, service and co-op planning
Cincinnatus is a competitive University of Cincinnati scholarship program considered through a complete first-year admission application. The immediate action is to finish both the application and required accompanying records by the published November 1 senior-year deadline.
For families planning a Cincinnati degree, the later question is how the scholarship fits the program's in-class semesters and community service requirement. A four-year headline is not enough to map a degree that includes co-op terms.
Understand what is competitive
On a smaller screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.
| Award route | What the provider describes | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Presidential Cincinnatus | 20 awards; estimated $30,000 annually with broad educational coverage | Meeting admission standards guarantees selection |
| Century / University | Other competitive Cincinnatus levels | Every recipient receives the Presidential amount |
| Nonresident supplement | Additional support with residency/rate exclusions | It combines with every reduced tuition rate |
The financial-aid Cincinnatus page describes selection using the admission application and academic program. Its November 1 rule is also listed on the university's 2027-28 financial-aid timeline. Check the current portal for receipt of required materials.
Use the award letter for the exact amount
UC's admissions and financial-aid pages show different lower-end figures for Century/University awards. This guide therefore does not present one disputed minimum as a settled current-year offer. Ask which terms apply to your entering class and save the response with your scholarship notice.
That inconsistency does not mean the program is unavailable. It means a planning estimate should remain a range or an unresolved line until the office confirms it. A family's affordable-college list should not depend on picking the more generous version of two conflicting pages.
Map in-class terms and service together
UC's incoming freshman scholarship guidance states up to eight full-time, in-class semesters, a minimum 3.0 GPA and an annual 30-hour community service requirement for renewal. Ask how those terms apply to your actual co-op sequence and degree plan.
Draw your projected schedule term by term. Mark classroom terms, co-op terms and any summer coursework, then ask the aid office where scholarship disbursements occur. Do not automatically spread eight semesters across every term of a five-year calendar. The number of paid classroom semesters and the number of calendar years can be different.
For service, choose an activity you can sustain alongside coursework and paid work. Check what counts, how hours are documented and when they are due. Having volunteered in high school does not by itself complete a college renewal requirement.
Before submitting and before enrolling
- Verify your entry term and the November 1 application/materials deadline in the current admissions process.
- Check the portal for transcript and any required score receipt; a submitted form can still be incomplete.
- When selected, compare the actual award letter with the current source and resolve discrepancies.
- Ask about nonresident supplements, metro/reciprocity rates and any other tuition discount before adding them together.
- Build the degree-length budget using the confirmed semester and renewal rules.
