Davidson Fellows 2027: is your completed project ready?

By Meritously · Published · 3 min read

Davidson Fellows is a competition for substantial completed work, not a general scholarship essay about wanting a STEM career. Before deciding to apply, assess the work itself: its original contribution, evidence, category fit and who can independently evaluate it.

The 2027 opening is confirmed. The closing date was not confirmed in the official pages checked for this guide, so an old February deadline should not become your calendar entry.

What is confirmed for the new application

The Institute’s October 23 announcement says 2027 applications open November 2, 2026, with scholarship levels of $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000. Categories include science, technology, engineering, mathematics, literature, music, philosophy and Outside the Box. It also lists an information session on November 12 at 4 p.m. Pacific.

The eligibility page still displays the February 18, 2026 closing date. That date belongs to the prior competition. Check the newly opened application for the 2027 deadline and final category instructions.

Check the project before the prose

The currently posted rules require applicants to be 18 or younger at the deadline and meet U.S. citizenship/permanent-residence and residence rules, with a stated active-military overseas exception. Two-person teams can qualify, must contact the program before starting and split the award. Two nominators are required. The page excludes community-service projects, literature reviews and specified performing or visual arts categories.

Try a project evidence audit

Create a folder with the final work, a short chronology and records showing your contribution. For collaborative research, distinguish your tasks from a mentor’s methods and the team’s shared output. Keep limitations visible: a result can be interesting without supporting every possible real-world application.

Ask a knowledgeable reader three questions: What is new here? What would an expert need to check? Which claim is stronger than the evidence? Revise the project explanation based on the answers, while preserving a record of what changed.

Do not rush into buying a research program to create a scholarship entry. The relevant decision is whether you already have, or can responsibly finish, meaningful work. Paying for access cannot establish originality or guarantee an award.

Use the opening to resolve uncertainty

On November 2, check the official portal, record the actual closing date and review the category-specific requirements. Confirm any sensitive research approvals or team questions directly with the provider before submission. Keep the work’s documentation even if you decide this competition is not the right fit.

For a different task, such as explaining science to a public audience, compare the Science Ambassador application. It asks for a different kind of evidence. Sources checked October 29, 2026; this article is a preparation guide, not a claim that applications are already open.
