Dorrance is no longer accepting applications: what Arizona seniors should do next
The Dorrance Scholarship Program is no longer accepting applications. Its official website says the current freshman class is the last selected and operations will conclude with the graduation of the class of 2030. Arizona seniors planning to enter college in fall 2027 should remove an expected Dorrance award from their funding plan.
This is a program closure to new applicants, not a missing application link or a deadline that can safely be advanced by one year. The official notice was checked October 29, 2026.
Use the provider's notice, not an estimated annual deadline
Read the Dorrance program's notice before spending time on an application. Older brochures and scholarship listings can remain online after a program changes. A future-looking deadline in a directory does not override the organization that actually offers the award.
If you had already placed Dorrance in a spreadsheet, change its status to closed to new applicants and remove the expected payment. Keep any essays or activity records you prepared; parts may be useful for another appropriate application, subject to that provider's originality and reuse rules.
Current recipients should follow their own program communications. The closure notice does not mean a new applicant can claim a remaining award, and this article does not interpret individual continuing recipients' terms.
Rebuild the list around the college you can attend
The alternatives below are starting points, not equivalent replacements for Dorrance's former package. They were selected because they connect directly to Arizona's public universities and published first-year merit processes. Compare eligibility and remaining cost before calling any option a substitute.
On a smaller screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.
| College route | Official starting point | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Arizona State University | New American University first-year merit estimates | Match campus, residency and core GPA to the correct estimate |
| Northern Arizona University | Current freshman scholarship tables | Use fall 2027 terms and include the first-year housing condition |
| University of Arizona | Incoming first-year scholarship guidance | Separate admission consideration from department applications |
Open ASU's merit page, NAU's freshman awards and Arizona's first-year scholarship page. An estimate or consideration process should remain separate from a confirmed offer.
Replace the missing money with a realistic comparison
Start with tuition, required fees and your actual living arrangement at each college. Subtract only confirmed grants in the base case. Put competitive awards and estimates in a second scenario so you can still see whether the plan works without them.
For example, a student able to live with family near one university should compare that actual commuter budget with a residential option. A larger scholarship at the residential college may still leave a higher bill. Travel and required meal plans belong in that comparison.
Then complete the college's aid process, including the FAFSA where applicable, and check department and local opportunities that fit your circumstances. First-generation status may matter to some programs, but it should not be assumed to create eligibility for every scholarship carrying that phrase.
Use the work you already did
Keep a factual activity record, an updated transcript and a private document checklist. For a new application, read its prompt and restrictions before adapting an old essay. Ask recommenders for a new submission only when the next program is a genuine fit.
The NAU fall 2027 comparison, ASU estimate guide and Arizona merit guide explain the different university routes. None is a promise that Dorrance's former funding will be replaced dollar for dollar.
