NC State Park Scholarship: why admission recommendations do not complete the application
NC State's Park Scholarships committee does not receive the general recommendations attached to your university admission application. Park needs two recommendations submitted through its own process by the scholarship deadline.
This is a practical reason to check both applications individually. An admission file can look complete while the scholarship file still lacks a required letter.
Two applications, one deadline
On a smaller screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.
| Requirement | Current instruction |
|---|---|
| NC State admission | Apply by November 1 |
| Park application | Complete by November 1, 11:59 p.m. Eastern |
| Park recommendations | Two; due by the same deadline |
| Park essays | Two responses, each limited to 600 words for 2026-27 selection |
The application page sets a minimum 3.80 unweighted GPA without rounding and requires fall first-year degree admission. Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or students graduating from a U.S. high school regardless of citizenship. Transfers are excluded. Meeting eligibility permits an application; it does not guarantee selection.
Give recommenders the correct destination
The current Park FAQ says at least one recommender should know your academic work. Parents or guardians cannot recommend; relatives are strongly discouraged. You may use the same appropriate people as for admission, but they must submit through the Park process. Missing recommendations make the scholarship application ineligible.
When requesting a letter, provide the program name, submission route and deadline together. A teacher handling many requests should not have to infer that two portals are involved. Give them a short factual reminder of the work they observed, and check completion politely with enough time to resolve a failed link or missed notification.
Plan the essays as part of a complete record
The 2026-27 prompts ask about learning that led to action and meaningful civic contribution. Read the exact current wording on the official page before drafting. The committee also sees parts of the admission application, so use the scholarship responses to explain decisions and consequences rather than reproduce an activities list.
A useful draft identifies what you did, why you chose it and what you learned from the result. Keep the scope accurate when describing team work. You do not need to inflate an ordinary responsibility into a large organization to show initiative or character.
You do not need to find a nominator
Park discontinued its endorsement process before the current cycle; applicants can access the application without a school nomination. Scores are optional for Park, but scores submitted to NC State for admission consideration are also considered by the scholarship program.
Keep a copy of the completed submission and confirm the required letters separately. Sources checked October 29, 2026 against the current application and 2026-27 selection FAQ. Selection remains competitive, so continue other funding applications while waiting. The recommendation guide can help organize requests without writing a recommender's letter for them.
