Nevada, Reno scholarships for 2027: the test-score decision can change the award's length

By Meritously · Published · 3 min read

For Nevada residents entering the University of Nevada, Reno in fall 2027, applying without an SAT or ACT score can change scholarship duration as well as amount. The university publishes a four-year GPA-and-test pathway and a separate one-year GPA-only option. Compare the full funding period before deciding how to submit your academic record.

This guide covers Nevada resident first-year students, not transfer or nonresident award schedules. Official sources were checked October 29, 2026.

Read the duration before comparing the dollar figure

UNR's Nevada freshman scholarship page uses an unweighted high-school GPA and ACT/SAT results for its renewable matrix. Selected examples show why the two pathways are different.

On a smaller screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.

Read the duration before comparing the dollar figure
Published exampleAmountStated duration
4.0 GPA and ACT 32 or SAT 1420$10,000 per year Presidential tierUp to four years, subject to conditions
4.0 GPA and ACT 30 or SAT 1360$5,000 per year Provost tierUp to four years, subject to conditions
4.0 GPA, no submitted SAT/ACT$3,000One year
3.8-3.99 GPA, no submitted SAT/ACT$1,500One year

These alternatives do not stack with each other or the university's National Merit Scholarship. The resident freshman programs require in-person enrollment and 15 credits in fall and spring. Check the full matrix for your own GPA and score; do not round yourself into a different band.

Evaluate a test submission without promising a result

A student already holding a qualifying score should check whether it has actually reached the university. A score sitting in a personal account is not the same thing as a completed scholarship file. If you are considering another test, first ask which test dates and submission dates can still be considered.

The potential value can be significant, but a retake does not guarantee improvement or an award. Compare the time and cost of preparation with your other application obligations. Use your current score as the base case and a higher score as a separate possibility, not a future fact.

A useful family discussion asks: what will we pay in the second year if only the one-year award is available? That question reveals a funding gap that a first-year-only comparison can hide.

A scholarship file has more than one deadline

UNR's fall 2027 admission calendar identifies February 15, 2027 as the financial-aid and scholarship priority deadline. It also lists June 15, 2027 for the deposit and required questionnaire to retain scholarship offers. The scholarship page additionally requires class enrollment by June 15.

Track the application, academic documents, financial-aid form and general scholarship application individually. Then add the acceptance and enrollment steps after an offer arrives. Completing the February work does not make the June work disappear.

Keep a dated copy of your offer and the continuing requirements. A four-year label means an award can continue under its terms; it does not eliminate academic or enrollment conditions.

Keep merit and need-based aid in separate columns

Pack Promise+ is a need-based, last-dollar program. Its 2027-28 maximum is $12,700 in gift aid, with Pell eligibility and a Student Aid Index of $7,000 or less among the requirements. It is not an additional unrestricted merit check of that amount.

If you may qualify, ask how the complete package is assembled rather than adding every program maximum together. Use the final gift-aid total once, then subtract it from the relevant cost estimate. The offer comparison guide helps keep grants, scholarships, loans and remaining costs visible.
