Appalachian Excellence; Chancellor's (Wilson unconfirmed)

ListedCollege program
Award
Appalachian Excellence: up to $3,000 per year for in-state students or $4,000 per year for out-of-state students. Chancellor’s: full tuition, fees, housing, and a meal plan for up to eight semesters, plus a funded first-year study abroad experience. Renewal GPA and Appalachian Excellence duration are not stated on the current pages.
Deadline
Submit admission by November 15. Honors pages conflict: the first-year application page, which displays the 2027 Honors essay prompt, says submit the Honors essay by November 15, while the Chancellor’s page says November 30. The Chancellor’s page lists January 24 virtual interviews and March 31 scholarship acceptance, without cycle years. Confirm the applicable 2027 deadlines in MyMountaineer.
How to apply
Appalachian Excellence consideration is automatic for academically qualified students meeting admission deadlines. Apply to the Honors College through the MyMountaineer Honors essay for automatic Chancellor’s consideration; finalists interview virtually. The financial aid directory still refers to additional portal steps, so follow the current portal instructions.
What you'll need
  • An honors college application
  • An essay
  • An interview
Who can apply
Entering first-year students. The Honors application requires at least a 3.5 unweighted high school GPA; this threshold applies to Chancellor’s consideration, not necessarily Appalachian Excellence. Chancellor’s Scholars participate in Honors and work toward University Honors requirements. First-year Honors students generally live in Cone Hall with an Honors roommate.
Good to know
These are distinct awards with different coverage and application routes. Wilson is not identified as a current award on the pages reviewed. Honors requires a thesis and an international education experience, which can include approved alternatives to study abroad.
