Full non-resident portion of tuition plus $4,000 per year for up to four years. National Merit Scholars may qualify for an additional $500 stipend.

How to apply
Apply for admission to UNL. National Merit Finalists must select UNL as their first-choice school with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

  • No separate application: you are considered when you apply for admission
Who can apply
Out-of-state first-year students of academic distinction and finalists in nationally recognized scholar competitions, including National Merit and National Recognition programs (First-Generation, Rural and Small Town, or School Recognition Awards). The official page states that nationally recognized finalists need a minimum 28 ACT or SAT equivalent and 3.500 GPA. Recipients must be US citizens or qualified aliens lawfully present in the US.
Good to know
Renewal requires a 3.500 cumulative GPA and 24 credit hours each academic year. Not transferable to other University of Nebraska campuses and does not cover courses taken at those campuses.
