- How to apply
- Enter an original work in any Scholastic category, opt in to New York Life Award and write a personal statement of at least 50 words connecting your personal grief/bereavement to the work. $15/individual entry or hardship waiver. Create a portal account; student and parent/guardian must electronically agree to participation terms.

- All eligible Scholastic teens/categories; work about death, personal grief, memory and continuing connection after someone important died. General rule: grades 7-12, age at least 13 on entry, attending school and residing in U.S./territories/military bases or Canada excluding Quebec; qualifying home/virtual schools permitted. Awards are individual, not collaborative.
- Good to know
- Other types of loss alone do not meet the current death/bereavement focus. Adviser awards separate. No AI-generated final work or statements; qualified brainstorming assistance allowed. Students keep copyright but grant broad nonexclusive promotion/exhibition license; original artwork may be retained for two years if requested.
