- $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000 total for qualified tuition and related expenses at accredited institutions. Institute controls payment documentation/timing; funds available for ten years, after which unused funds are forfeited. Two-person teams split the award equally.
- Deadline
- 2027 application announced to open fall 2026; 2027 deadline and recognition-event dates not yet published. Posted February 18, 2026 deadline is for the prior cycle.
- How to apply
- Complete significant original work in one category, submit preliminary online application, then category materials after initial review, two nonfamily nominator forms, attachments and parent/guardian commitment. Teams must contact the programme before beginning. Category-specific 2027 instructions are not yet published; prior instructions use typed online uploads, not email/fax. AI may not draft attachment responses or category requirements; disclose paid programmes and all financial/familial support.
- Who can apply
- Age 18 or younger at deadline, with no minimum age or grade. U.S. citizen or permanent resident living in the United States, with an exception for those stationed overseas due to active U.S. military duty. Completed work near college-graduate level in STEM, literature, music, philosophy or Outside the Box; community-service and athletic accomplishments, literature reviews, and excluded visual/performance-art categories do not qualify. Human-subject research requires IRB paperwork; animal/tissue projects have specific restrictions and narrow exceptions. Prior named Fellows cannot win again.
- Good to know
- Recipients may study any major. Withdrawal or unsatisfactory study without alternate arrangements may terminate funding. Applicant retains intellectual property. Published eligibility requires recipient and parent/guardian attendance at September Washington, DC recognition, with travel/lodging provided; event format/date should be reconfirmed for 2027.
