- One high-school senior per participating accredited school, selected by teachers and peers for dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. The school must be accredited and in good standing with its state board; the official handout also describes recognized accreditation allowing a diploma without a GED. U.S. citizenship is not required.

- This school-selected contest uses local DAR chapter instructions. The general DAR Scholarship Committee online portal is not the entry route for Good Citizens.
