- Coach submits the project online by 8:00 PM ET, January 27, 2027
- How to apply
- Form a team of two to four students with a coach age 21 or older, who registers and submits online. Include a title (50 characters maximum), abstract (150 words maximum), description (11 pages maximum), bibliography and one-page Technology Launch Flyer. High-school descriptions cover present technology, history, future technology at least 10 years ahead, breakthroughs, three rejected alternatives and consequences. Regional winners subsequently build a prototype.

- Who can apply
- U.S. or Canadian citizens living in the U.S., Canada, U.S. territories or a DoWEA school abroad, enrolled full time and no older than 21. The oldest team member sets the category; high-school category is grades 10-12. One project per student. NSTA employees, board members, judges and their families are excluded. Previous regional/national finalists need a new team of previously nonfinalist students; previously prize-winning projects are ineligible.
- Good to know
- AI may support brainstorming or research under the official policy; cite original sources and link the full LLM-generated text. The flyer prototype image must not be AI-generated. Savings-bond figures are maturity values, with issue price half the face value; Canadian winners receive equivalent cash.
