- Category Grand Awards: $6,000, $2,400, $1,200 and $600 cash. Top awards selected from first-place projects include $100,000, two $75,000 awards and two $50,000 awards. Team awards are split equally. Some top awards are restricted to post-secondary educational expenses.

- How to apply
- Compete at a Society-affiliated fair and earn a finalist allocation. Before research, complete the research plan and required sponsor, student and approval forms; obtain any required SRC/IRB approval before experimentation. Finalists submit scanned paperwork, a maximum 250-word abstract, registration and virtual booth, and present the project at ISEF.

- A finalist round or selection weekend
- Who can apply
- Grade 9-12 students or equivalent, selected by an affiliated fair, who have not reached age 20 on or before May 1 preceding ISEF. Individual or maximum three-member team projects; one project per student. Research is limited to 12 continuous months, starting no earlier than January 2026 and ending by May 2027. International students are eligible.
- Good to know
- Affiliated fairs may impose additional geographic and entry restrictions. Continuations must demonstrate substantive new research and undergo annual review. Generative AI cannot write the research plan, abstract or poster or create citations; permitted resource use must be acknowledged. Team membership cannot change after a project competes at any fair.
