AAN Neuroscience Research Prize

- Three AAN winners receive $1,000 each and a 2027 AAN Annual Meeting poster presentation. Each student and one parent or mentor receive coach airfare, two hotel nights, meeting registration and $100 per day for up to two days. One Bhuwan Garg winner receives $1,000 and a 2027 Child Neurology Society poster presentation, with student/parent-or-mentor airfare, three lodging nights, ground transport and registration. Travel benefits depend on the in-person meeting proceeding.

- How to apply
- Use the official online application with a maximum 300-word abstract, research report and bibliography. Complete electronic signatures from a parent/guardian, teacher and mentor by the application deadline. First-round judging reviews the abstract; finalists receive full-report review.

- Original research
- Who can apply
- Students enrolled in and attending grades 9 to 12 in the United States, regardless of age. Individual original neuroscience research and original written work are required; group projects are excluded, but a formal laboratory is not required. Family of judges, AAN Science Committee members or AAN staff are ineligible.
- Good to know
- Research must concern the brain or nervous system. Behavioral or psychology projects need a clear neurophysiology connection. Travel packages differ between the three AAN prizes and the Bhuwan Garg prize.
