- $1,500 high-school and $750 intermediate awards for further musical study; judges may withhold awards. The 2027 announcement also permits advertised amounts to be adjusted for financial shortfalls, with applicants notified.
- Deadline
- March 1, 2027 (2026-27 NFMC awards chart). Postmark deadline; mail no more than one month before closing.
- How to apply
- Follow the award-specific mailed application rules: send the typed signed form, an original manuscript and six legible copies, postmarked by March 1 in an odd year. Do not email or upload. Submit one anonymous piano solo or piano-only ensemble composition, no more than four engraved pages and written for early-elementary to intermediate piano skill. Do not include recordings.

- Membership in the sponsoring organization
- Who can apply
- Nonprofessional composers in grades 10 to 12 for the $1,500 high-school category, or grades 7 to 9 for the $750 intermediate category, who are currently studying music and are NFMC members. Works must not have been published for public use or sale. Only one original composition per entrant; arrangements are excluded. Past monetary winners cannot reenter the same category. U.S. citizenship is not required.
- Good to know
- Award-specific August 2026 rules require postal submission, despite the general NFMC online policy. Entry fee is covered by a private donor. Membership is still required.
