December 2026 scholarship deadlines: admissions, essays or a STEM video?
December scholarship work can involve three very different jobs: completing an admissions file, writing a separate scholarship response, or producing a project. Choose the job that fits your college plans and eligibility before ordering the deadlines on your calendar.
These examples were selected for published December 2026 dates and contrasting application routes, not because they are universally the best scholarships. Sources were checked October 29, 2026. This is a dated planning comparison; a listed date does not remain an open opportunity after it passes.
Three routes, three kinds of preparation
On a smaller screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.
| Program | Published date | What the task involves | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vanderbilt Ingram and Cornelius Vanderbilt | December 1, 2026 | Admission application, MyAppVU access and the relevant scholarship submission | Highly selective; the programs use different academic and service criteria |
| Alabama freshman scholarship priority | December 4, 2026 | All application materials for summer/fall 2027 first-time main-campus freshmen | A priority date is not a universal award guarantee; scholarship and residency rules still apply |
| Science Ambassador | December 14, 2026, 11:59 p.m. U.S. Central | A public YouTube STEM lesson of three minutes or less and the application form | Women and non-binary seniors or undergraduates pursuing undergraduate STEM; verify the full enrollment rules |
A single reminder saying 'scholarships due in December' hides the work that must happen first. Put portal access, transcript or score delivery, and video completion on separate lines when they apply.
Start the college applications early enough to unlock the scholarship work
Vanderbilt's scholarship process runs through MyAppVU after the admission application. The university says portal access normally follows within two to three business days. That is a reason to leave time before December 1, not a promise that access will arrive immediately in every case. Follow the current instructions for each named scholarship.
Alabama's December 4 priority date is for summer and fall 2027 entry. The official timeline says all application materials must be submitted by the priority deadline for scholarship consideration. The 2027 out-of-state merit guide separates the published academic tiers from competitive awards and explains why score-report rules matter.
Before you submit either college application, consider whether you would want to attend and whether a realistic financial scenario works. Applying for a selective award is different from assuming you will win it. Keep an affordable alternative in the plan.
Science Ambassador rewards an explanation, not a personal statement
Science Ambassador asks for a short STEM lesson. Its current award is five one-time $20,000 scholarships toward undergraduate STEM tuition, rather than the full-tuition model an older article might describe. A strong starting question is whether you can explain one scientific idea clearly and accurately within the time limit.
The provider says production value is not a judging factor. Spend your preparation time checking the explanation, choosing a useful demonstration and citing your research. Test that the uploaded video is public and follows the accepted YouTube format; a polished file that the judges cannot review does not help.
The application is open to eligible non-U.S.-citizens as well, but it is tied to study in the United States or a U.S. territory. That is one eligibility answer, not a waiver of the other student-status and STEM requirements. Read the full program comparison before beginning.
Choose the bottleneck, then work backward
For a college scholarship, the bottleneck may be a document sent by your school. For a video, it may be deciding what to teach and verifying the science. Start there rather than spending the first evening formatting a tracker.
As an illustrative plan, reserve one session for eligibility and required-material checks, another for drafting or recording, and a final session for review and submission confirmation. Adjust the time to the actual task. A complex project can require much more preparation than this simple outline.
Use the deadline tracker to record the provider's date and your own target separately. If a deadline has passed by the time you read this guide, check the next cycle directly; do not change the year in an old date and assume the rules will repeat.
