Ohio State merit scholarships: National Buckeye and the applications you must add

By Meritously · Published · 3 min read

Ohio State's November 1 early-action application preserves consideration for several merit awards, but it does not complete every scholarship process. Stamps Eminence requires another application, while Morrill asks for interest and an essay within the admission application.

For autumn 2027 entry, the first-year calendar identifies November 1, 2026 as early action. January's regular-decision date should not become your scholarship planning target.

Match the scholarship to the required work

On a smaller screen, scroll the table sideways to see every column.

Match the scholarship to the required work
RoutePublished supportHow consideration starts
National BuckeyeUp to $13,500 annually for eligible non-Ohio residentsAdmission application by November 1
Maximus, Provost or Trustees$1,000-$3,000 annuallyAdmission application by November 1
Stamps EminenceFull cost of attendance; separate enrichment grantAdmission by November 1, Honors/Scholars interest, separate application by November 9
MorrillDifferent tuition or cost-of-attendance levelsIndicate interest and complete the MSP essay; November 1 strongly recommended

The official merit page scopes these awards to eligible incoming Columbus first-years; international students and transfers are excluded from these university merit routes. Selection is competitive. National Buckeye can combine with Maximus, Provost or Trustees, but these names are not permission to add every university award together.

Use separate checkboxes for extra requirements

A complete admission file and a complete scholarship supplement are different milestones. Put each required essay, interest response and separate submission in your checklist. For Stamps Eminence, leave time to prepare the requested essay and video instead of discovering those requirements after completing the Common Application.

Choose examples that fit the actual prompt. A student pursuing a service-focused route should explain the work performed and its effect, including limits or lessons, rather than simply repeating an activity title. Keep the same factual record across applications even when each answer emphasizes a different part.

Two awards in a package can have different renewal thresholds

Ohio State's renewal table lists a 2.5 GPA for National Buckeye and 3.2 for Maximus, Provost and Trustees. These awards require full-time study toward a first undergraduate degree and normally allow up to eight semesters under their terms.

A package containing two awards should therefore have two renewal rows. Losing the smaller award could still change your remaining price. Ask the financial-aid office about the evaluation schedule and any enrollment change before assuming a general university academic-standing rule also protects scholarship eligibility.

Compare confirmed amounts, not the maximum advertised

An award described as up to a stated amount belongs in a possible-aid column until your own offer arrives. Build a second budget using only confirmed aid, including nonresident tuition and your housing plan. Do not treat a competitive full-cost scholarship as the financial fallback for an otherwise unaffordable offer.

Sources checked October 29, 2026. The university says criteria and amounts can change; use your entering-year award notice for final terms. The comparison guide can record both the price and conditions attached to it.
