Oklahoma merit aid for 2027: compare the score and test-optional routes

By Meritously · Published · 3 min read

The University of Oklahoma offers both a published score-and-GPA route and holistic test-optional scholarship review for fall 2027. Nonresident applicants should compare those routes using annual amounts, not mistake a four-year tuition-waiver total for a yearly payment.

The practical question is whether a score, an updated transcript or a different funding category changes your offer. OU's scholarship GPA and score policies deserve a separate check from the numbers printed on your high school report.

Award of Excellence31+ ACT or 1390+ SAT; 3.5 GPA$17,500
Academic Achievement26-27 ACT or 1230-1290 SAT; 3.5 GPA$14,000
Test-optional reviewHolistic academic review$6,000-$12,000 range

The official scholarship page identifies these fall 2027 terms. Students receive the highest applicable listed merit award, not the sum of multiple rows. The test-optional range is not a promise of a specific award.

Use OU's GPA and score rules

OU uses a standardized weighted scholarship GPA. It accepts ACT/SAT superscores and self-reported scores for scholarship purposes, with verification required at enrollment. Applicants should apply by December 15. OU describes an April 30 test-update policy and invites seventh-semester transcripts for scholarship update consideration. Confirm the exact test-date and receipt cutoffs with OU rather than assuming the transcript has the same deadline.

Do not compare OU's GPA requirement directly with a college using an unweighted core GPA. Ask each institution to confirm the number in its own record. If you are deciding whether to report a score, compare the published route with the holistic route without assuming that a test-optional application is treated identically at every university.

National Merit requires its own check

National Merit recognition is a separate funding route. OU's dedicated nonresident Finalist page retained an entering-fall-2026 heading while describing December 2026 and April 2027 actions when checked. Obtain the correct entering-class package and its components directly from OU before budgeting it; this guide does not infer a package total from that mixed-year presentation.

A package may combine a tuition waiver with other support; that is different from cash you can spend freely. Confirm first-choice designation requirements, residency, term limits and any replacement of an earlier academic award. Keep the ordinary merit offer as a separate scenario until an upgraded package is confirmed.

Build a two-stage budget

First calculate affordability using the offer currently documented in your portal. Then create a second scenario for an eligible score or transcript update. Label that second scenario as pending. This makes it possible to decide whether another test or an updated transcript is worthwhile without treating an uncertain increase as money already awarded.

For both scenarios, subtract tuition waivers from the correct tuition charge and include housing, food, fees and travel. Verify renewal conditions before projecting four years. Save the source and the actual award letter together so a future website revision does not erase the terms you were offered.
