K-State's Wildcat award: what a 100% nonresident discount actually covers
K-State's highest Wildcat Nonresident tier removes the nonresident portion of tuition. It brings eligible tuition to the in-state level; it does not erase the underlying in-state tuition, fees or living costs.
That distinction makes the award easier to compare with fixed-dollar scholarships elsewhere. Start with the actual charge being reduced, then calculate what remains under your expected enrollment.

| Best weighted or unweighted GPA | Nonresident portion reduced | What remains before other aid |
|---|---|---|
| 3.90+ | 100% | In-state tuition and other costs |
| 3.75-3.89 | 80% | In-state tuition plus 20% of surcharge and other costs |
| 3.50-3.74 | 60% | In-state tuition plus 40% of surcharge and other costs |
| 3.25-3.49 | 50% | In-state tuition plus half the surcharge and other costs |
K-State's official Wildcat page uses a 4.0-scale sixth-semester cumulative GPA and does not consider ACT/SAT scores for this award. Its dollar estimates assume 30 credits, so the percentage and your bill are more useful than treating the estimate as an unrestricted cash payment.
Check campus, residency and entry category
The route covers eligible domestic and international non-Kansas residents seeking degrees at Manhattan or Salina with at least 12 credits each fall and spring. Transfer students have a different table. Do not use the freshman chart to estimate a transfer offer.
If your GPA appears in several forms, send the requested record instead of independently rounding into a higher tier. A student close to a boundary should ask which transcript value the university will use. The source accepts an unofficial or self-reported GPA initially and requires an official record after graduation.
Compare two prices with the same denominator
Consider a fictional annual budget with $12,000 base tuition, a $15,000 nonresident surcharge and $16,000 in fees and living costs. An 80% surcharge reduction removes $12,000, leaving $31,000. Those invented numbers illustrate the calculation; they are not K-State charges.
A different college's $14,000 scholarship could still leave a higher remaining price if its starting budget is larger. Compare the same housing assumptions and credit load at each college. Also ask whether program fees or summer enrollment fall outside the discounted charge.
Make the four-year plan conditional on renewal
Freshman renewal requires a 3.0 K-State cumulative GPA, continuous full-time fall/spring enrollment and 24 K-State credits per academic year. The usual maximum is eight semesters; qualifying five-year Architecture, Planning & Design programs may allow ten.
Build a semester plan that protects both enrollment and earned credits, particularly before a withdrawal or change of major. The page contains an April 1 upgrade note mentioning scores even though this award is explicitly GPA-only; confirm how a seventh-semester GPA update applies to your route rather than assuming test scores improve it.
