575 awards of $3,200; 25 finalist awards of $5,625, with one finalist receiving $25,000 total instead. One-time/nonrenewable; paid to U.S. institution in July/August for qualified undergraduate tuition/fees/books/supplies/equipment, used within two years. Top 25 finalists and advisers receive paid DC trip.

How to apply
Create NHS student account and obtain adviser verification first. Complete academic profile, NHS-pillar essay, 3-8 service activities, NHS/1-6 other leadership roles and certification. Request separate adviser certification and non-adviser/non-family adult recommendation through portal; both forms must be finished before student can submit. External recommendation letters are not accepted.

Who can apply
High-school senior or expecting diploma during current academic year; active NHS member in good standing in active school chapter, verified account, planning accredited U.S. college/university, military institute or trade school. Chapter-specific GPA/service obligations apply; no uniform scholarship GPA threshold stated. No applicant limit per chapter; current resource guide states maximum one winner per school.
Good to know
Current resource guide suggests educator recommendation; FAQ permits a non-adviser/non-family adult able to address NHS pillars. Award cannot be paid as cash or refunded to student.
