Up to $2,250 per full-time semester freshman/sophomore and $2,850 junior/senior at four-year institutions or two-year institutions with on-campus housing; up to $1,600 at other two-year institutions. Summer funding available. Generally 75% of full award at 9-11 credits and 50% at 6-8; under six normally not funded, with graduation/programme exceptions. Only courses leading to the eligible associate/bachelor programme are funded.

How to apply
Complete FAFSA each year; this applies for HOPE and its GAMS supplement. Institution verifies final academic eligibility and credits funds to the school account. Monitor THEC Student Portal and college financial-aid office; homeschool applicants should request specific GAMS review if applicable.
What you'll need
  • Required financial-aid forms (check the program's rules)
Who can apply
Tennessee resident, eligible high-school graduate enrolling within 16 months. Standard Tennessee-school path: ACT 21 or SAT 1060 before college enrolment, OR overall 3.0 GPA under the weighted Tennessee Uniform Grading Policy. Homeschool GPA is not used: ACT/SAT route or specified two dual-enrolment courses totalling six credits with 3.0 in each and cumulative dual-enrolment GPA. GED/HiSET routes require qualifying test scores plus ACT requirement. Qualified out-of-state-school exceptions include adjoining counties, military/DoD, foreign religious service and accredited boarding schools. ACT superscores/residual tests not accepted. College renewal needs 2.75 at 24/48 attempted hours, then 3.0 at 72 and later 24-hour benchmarks, or conditional 2.75-2.99 cumulative plus 3.0 term GPA/full-time attendance.
Good to know
Awards require eligible Tennessee institution and continued fall/spring enrolment, satisfactory academic progress and annual FAFSA. Normal five-year limit from initial postsecondary enrolment; documented disability may qualify for extension. Changing enrolment load or leaving school can affect eligibility; one academic regain opportunity at a later benchmark.
