Timeline
  1. Apr 2, 2027For the 2027 application, high-school applicants may use the Early Response deadline of
  2. May 3, 2027The regular deadline is . Only one application per year.
How to apply
The 2027-28 online application opens in December. Enter household, academics, college choice and financial details. The current cycle guide requests a FAFSA Submission Summary, chosen-college financial-aid package and two essays. It requests both college and high-school transcripts for college applicants; high-school applicants have their counselor upload the transcript. High-school applicants use a school counselor as required recommender; college applicants use a professor, high-school teacher or community contact. Up to three additional recommenders are allowed, excluding relatives/personal friends. The FAQ describes exceptions for college students: the high-school transcript is optional after three college semesters, and continuing students may use their current-year aid package. Those exceptions and the FAQ non-filer form have not been confirmed for 2027-28. Submit once all required portal questions are complete.
Who can apply
Permanent resident of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont; entering/returning full-time student (at least 12 credits) pursuing a first bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. institution. U.S. citizen, or noncitizen with lawful presence and employment authorization, or who files/is dependent on a parent filing a U.S. tax return. The criteria page says applicants should have 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and skilled writing. Unmet need must be at least $7,000 and SAI normally no more than 13,000; special circumstances should be discussed with staff. Fund directors, employees, volunteers and their families are excluded.
Good to know
Financial need is required. The specific Award page publishes $500-$20,000, while the Who We Are overview gives $3,000-$17,000; confirm the individual award with the Fund. The dated 2027-28 guide confirms the core materials, but its college-student transcript and aid-package instructions differ from the FAQ exceptions; the non-filer form linked by the FAQ still names 2026-27. Those exceptions are not confirmed for this cycle. Criteria uses “should” for 3.0 GPA, so no hard 3.0 filter is claimed. Noon deadlines are published without a timezone.
