Terry Traditional Scholarship
Merit + needScholarship
Financial need is part of how this award is decided, alongside merit.
- Award
- Last-dollar support toward university official on-campus cost of attendance after other aid, covering tuition, fees, books and reasonable on-campus living expenses. Up to eight undergraduate semesters, renewed at Foundation discretion subject to requirements; individual stipend varies.
- Deadline
- Affiliated universities set their own admission, scholarship, FAFSA and document deadlines. Texas Tech explicitly publishes October 1, 2026-January 15, 2027 Terry application window, February 1, 2027 FAFSA deadline, February 6 phone screenings and March 29-30 Dallas interviews. Other partners’ full fall-2027 calendars remain unconfirmed. No common statewide date or closing timezone is claimed.
- How to apply
- Apply through an affiliated university, not directly to Foundation; complete university admission, scholarship essays, FAFSA and requested documents, then mandatory Foundation interview if nominated. Texas Tech’s current instructions require two essays, recommender email for portal nomination and college transcript for 15 or more completed/planned dual-credit hours. Partner document requirements differ.
- What you'll need
- A separate scholarship application
- An interview
- Required financial-aid forms (check the program's rules)
- Who can apply
- Graduate of an accredited Texas high school or homeschool; U.S. citizen or permanent resident meeting Texas residency and qualifying for in-state tuition; strong grades and class rank; demonstrated financial need via the FAFSA; leadership record; admitted as a full-time entering freshman; commit to living on campus the first year.
- Good to know
- No gap year immediately after high-school graduation; online-only degrees ineligible, at least six semester credits must be attended physically on affiliated campus. First year at nominating university before scholarship can transfer among affiliates. Renewal requires 12 credits each consecutive nonsummer semester, cumulative GPA 2.5 and semester GPA 2.0, annual FAFSA/verification/outside-aid review, required Foundation events, code/handbook compliance and annual self-evaluation by June 1. First-year designated on-campus residence required; campus-specific exceptions apply. Texas Tech’s application calendar is explicitly dated for 2027, but its eligibility section retains a conflicting 2026-27 admission-year label; verify that campus-year detail. Its first-year Terry housing is Murray Hall.
